Our inclusive philosophy and levels of care
We are open to seniors of all backgrounds. Our only requirement is that they enjoy the comfort and coziness of our Home, called hygge in Danish.
The Danish Home offers independent, catered and skilled Nursing living. Once you have settled in here, there is no need to change your address again. Nor will you want to. Even if you require more help with activities of daily living (ADL’s) The Danish Home will try to modify your apartment to accommodate the changes you need.
We are a family so all meals and activities are enjoyed together, regardless of the level of care. You may continue to engage with old friends, and you will still be celebrated for the special person you are by our robust volunteer group, management, family and friends.
More than a home
The Danish Home is the only remaining senior community first sponsored by the Danes in the United States. It is considered a “Cultural Center” for Danish-American life. Besides occasionally offering Danish-inspiried cuisine and pastries, The Home observes beloved Danish holidays like Lillejuleaften and is the gathering place for many Danish and Scandinavian organizations.
The Danish Consul General in Chicago is a frequent visitor and we have been honored by Danish royalty over the years. In early 2024, the Danish Ambassador to the US spoke at the ground breaking of our new addition.
The minute you step inside you have the ‘hygge’ feeling.”
