“We are thrilled with The Danish Home and how my aunt and uncle are being treated,” said Joe Damiano, nephew of Vincenzo and Carmela Damiano. Formerly of Chicago, Illinois, the couple now lives at The Danish Home of Chicago.

Joe helped his two family members move into the retirement community in the Norwood Park neighborhood in October last year. Damiano’s uncle was frail and required 24-hour care, and his aunt was increasingly forgetful. He decided he wanted to find his family members a place where they would be ensured incredible care and safety. Joe researched different senior living spaces within the Chicagoland area, but nothing compared to The Danish Home.

“I liked the fact that The Danish Home was smaller. It was clean and friendly, and their building is more homey and cozy than others,” says Joe.

The senior living community caught Joe’s eye, and when it came time for his aunt and uncle to move, the staff at The Danish Home were able to help his two family members navigate the process and adjust to their new home.

“Before, when my uncle first got in there, he was nervous and unsure of what to expect,” said Joe. “The whole staff together makes the living comfortable, especially my uncle’s favorite nurses. They are very patient and willing to work with them. The whole environment has calmed him down.”

After adjusting to the new community, Joe’s aunt and uncle became very comfortable in The Danish Home, with many activities and things to do. The Danish Home has programs the couple can partake in, ranging from Church services to Spin & Win game nights, to relaxing group strolls through the community gardens. These are just a few of the countless ways to get involved at the retirement community.

“My aunt and uncle are involved in many activities after lunch. They have many people to talk to, and they enjoy the atmosphere and company that they have.”

Joe visits his aunt and uncle at The Danish Home twice every week. He is pleased with how his family members are being treated and with the senior living community.

“If we need something, they quickly give us what we need. We are delighted with how they run things and work with me and my family.”
